Profile:
He founded Kim Itoh + the Glorious Future in 1995. Winning a prize at the Bagnolet International Choreography Competition in 1996 gave Itoh the opportunity to move beyond Japan and perform overseas in France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Spain, Argentina, the Netherlands, the United States, Canada, Denmark, and other countries. New works are created at the rate of about one per year, based on the theme of "unusual in the everyday" and filed with satire and unique humor. In recent years, Itoh has actively staged works in spaces other than theaters. In 2002, he was awarded the Terayama Shuji Award of the Asahi Performing Arts Award, an award granted to up-and-coming artists. |

SCREAMING GARDEN |
| 2001 |
| This is a co-production of Setagaya Public Theatre, Biwako Hall, and Kim Itoh + Glorious Future. There is a fixed "philosophy of space" in the old and new, oriental and occidental garden, including the sizes of the trees and rocks and the relationships between the sunlight and the background, and the natural and the artificial are in delicate contact with each other. It is the essence of a dance performance space that uses the body as its main artistic material. In this work, an eight meter square milky white plastic platform twenty centimeters in height is placed center stage, lit by fluorescent lights that are embedded in it. This illuminated platform is the foundation of the garden space and the core of the work. |
