Ryoichiro was born in 1977 and Kenichi in 1979. From Hokkaido, they both took up the shamisen at age five and in 1990 became students of the 1st Takashi Sasaki. They subsequently won various prizes at Tsugaru shamisen competitions around the country. In 1999 they put out their debut album, Ibuki. They followed up their debut with a series of albums, Move in 2000, Soulful in 2002, Frontier in 2003 and Renaissance in 2004. They won the Album of the Year Award for traditional Japanese music at the 15th Japan Gold Disc Awards, and at the 17th Japan Gold Disc Awards they received a special prize commemorating the 30th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and China. The brothers tirelessly tour the country, having performed over 500 shows in the five years since their debut. In 2003 they debuted in the U.S. with the album Yoshida Brothers, and in 2004 they released Yoshida Brothers II. They plan to release a new album in both the U.S. and Japan in September 2005 and will launch a full-fledged concert tour. In Korea as well, the brothers put out an album in 2004 entitled Renaissance and performed a concert at the Mesa Popcon Hall in Seoul. The tickets for this concert were sold out. They plan to release an album in Europe in the future, and are currently planning collaborations with artists of various nationalities ahead of this release.

Overseas Performances
The 90 minutes and two hour band versions of the brothers' show feature a six man group with keyboard, bass, drums, and percussion. The brothers incorporate various musical elements from around the world that transcend the framework of traditional Japanese arts. They also stage a one hour performance consisting of just two Tsugaru shamisen that is richly colored by Japanese traditional music.
